On 26 September we were proud to co-host, with world-leading cloud services provider Amazon Web Services (AWS), a breakfast event for our clients in Sandton, Johannesburg, to discuss the experience of adopting cloud technologies.
Geoff Brown, Lead for AWS Sub-Saharan Africa, kicked off the morning with a keynote on simplifying the journey to cloud while addressing common misconceptions around the use of public cloud. He noted that AWS is ready to help customers begin or expand their cloud journey, and that often an initial “test drive” of the platform helped clients make the decision to fully embrace the technology.
Geoff was followed by Nerushka Bowen, one of South Africa’s leading technology legal specialists, gave clients a great overview of the security, regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to the financial services sector’s use of cloud, making herself a popular choice in the morning’s networking session.
Finally Luke Weston led an animated panel discussion with Synthesis’ top financial services clients, including Absa, Investec and VAT IT, on the way in which adopting cloud technology has led to lower-cost, more agile, innovative and data-driven businesses. They also spoke about the role of company culture in influencing cloud adoption strategies, and the importance of working with an experienced partner throughout the cloud transformation journey.
The morning was filled with rich discussion, hands-on client stories and valuable networking. The key take-away of the event was that getting started with cloud technology might be easier than one would think. Thanks to our Synthesis marketing team and to AWS for making a great day possible.
